Sea Best Shrimp

October 22, 2016 MENU

My Saturday was a very busy day.  I missed breakfast doing a job at a local festival.  I had my eyes on this food booth that was selling fried fish and shrimp.  I'm like I really want some fried shrimp.  Well I made my order and paid for my meal.  Then he went to cook it and grabbed a bag of pre-breaded shrimp labeled Sea Best shrimp.  Ugh I wanted some homemade shrimp.  Too late now.  It was very delicious but not as good as the real fresh kind.  Then almost immediately my fingers swelled up from the excess salt.  My meal came with french fries.  But I did not eat them.  I brought them home for my daughter to eat.  I was eating light for my lunch on purpose.  I was going to a evening party with my mom for her choir group.  We ate BBQ chicken, bacon wrapped green beans, olive garden style salad and a deviled egg.  Oh there were many other options I didn't choose, like potato salad, nuts, celery with pimento cheese or cream cheese to just name a few.  I did get me one half of a mini pecan pie for desert.  I was soooooo tempted to go back for the other half of pie.  I did some great self control.  With skipping breakfast and eating a semi light lunch.  I finished the day with a total of 1035 calories for the day.  I was under by 295 calories.   If you like my meal ideas just check out my diary for a list of ingredients for that meal.  And yes! I measured and weighed everything.  A crucial part of everyone's dieting is will power. The second part is portion control with good choices and third is physical activity.

Fried Crawfish Tails

Thursday September 15, 2016 Menu

I had a meeting at the Paragon and I knew this would be a day I would have to eat out.  I ate very light and had an egg.  for lunch we went eat at Roxy's Diner.  I wanted either a shrimp poboy, Monte Christo or fried crawfish.  The portion sizes for the sandwiches are so large that I decided to eat the fried crawfish appetizer.  This came with thin onion rings.  I will save the other 2 for a day I can share with a friend or be able to have takeout.  When I got off work we were heading out for New Orleans for a little trip with my daughter and her best friend.  My mom had made a chicken and gravy.  I ate just a piece of chicken before leaving.  We arrived in New Orleans around 9pm.  I was a little hungry and opted to eat a ham and turkey sandwich.  This whole weekend I ate on the fly.  I can't properly add to my diary from my phone for some reason.  Now that I am sitting here entering all of my foods I am learning how to portion myself a lot better.  I finished the day with a total of 1154  calories for the day.  I was 56 under my calorie goal.    That was a great day.  If you like my meal ideas just check out my diary for a list of ingredients for that meal.  And yes! I measured and weighed everything.  A crucial part of everyone's dieting is will power. The second part is portion control with good choices and third is physical activity.

Southern Fried Chicken & Onion Rings

Sunday September 4, 2016 Menu

I forgot that this was payday week.  We usually go out to eat.  Last time it was the Katfish Kitchen.  This week is an after church meal of fried chicken and onion rings.  For breakfast I decided to eat a small bowl of cereal.  If you decide to eat cereal for breakfast, try not to eat more than 1 cup and 1/2 cup of milk.  For the fat and calories we are better off eating real food. I was digging on the counter and found this small bag of Golden Grahams that needed to be eaten.  I am the only one in the house that eats that.  Poof, now it's gone.  I will not be buying cereal for a while.  If I do I might just get some bran flakes, might.  Maybe I will get it again when I get the maintain my weight stage.  Right now we are in the loose weight stage.  At this stage the calorie intake is low at 1330 and the exercise is high at 5 days a week.  I entered in my food diary the breakfast and lunch.  I put the chicken at 1 1/2 pieces because it is always a big piece of meat as you see in the photo.  I only had 300 calories left for supper.  I put dibs on the leftover cabbage casserole.  I think I did awesome this day.  I even did several hours of weed eating the yard.  No I didn't put that in my exercise diary.  I don't know if that is exactly the calories burned as shown on My Fitness Pal.  See when I enter in my bicycle and elliptical calories that are on the machine it's always about 100 calories less than the website puts.  I just correct it.   I don't know how to tell how many calories I actually burned, so I don't enter it.  Well my awesomeness wore off when I went to church and the kids had youth group.  They were bragging at how good the Chips Ahoy fudge stuffed cookies were and got talked into trying one.   Ugh that one cookie was 70 calories and put me over my total by 57.    I finished the day with a total of 1387 calories for the day.   Had I not eaten the cookie I would have been under my calories for the day.  I am not going to stress over it because I did do several hours of yard work.  But need to not eat the cookie next time.  Will power, will power, I need to remember to use my will power.  If you like my meal ideas just check out my diary for a list of ingredients for that meal.  And yes! I measured and weighed everything.  A crucial part of everyone's dieting is will power. The second part is portion control with good choices and third is physical activity.

Southern Fried Catfish and Fried Pickles

Friday August 19, 2016

When I made my meal plan for the week I forgot that it was payday.  That means we go out to eat something special.  This type of eating out can go 2 ways.  1. eat what you want most of the day without going to crazy, as a cheat day or 2.  do some serious work on your meal plan to get it right.  I choose option 2 because I think Saturday or Sunday might be my cheat day.  In the My Fitness Pal I entered in what I normally order to eat from the Katfish Kitchen restaurant in Eola, Louisiana.  Which is a 3 piece catfish with either a baked potato or French fries and fried pickles for an appetizer.  I checked the calories for the fries and potato.  The potato won to reduce the fat intake.   My portion size will be only 1/2 of the potato.   Now to work hard on what to eat for breakfast and lunch.  I only have 501 calories for breakfast, lunch and snacks.  I picked oatmeal for breakfast.  I usually do 2 servings but will have to settle for 1.  I will graze on apples at both of my snack times.  Then I only had 200 calories approximately left for lunch.  I picked a protein meal bar.  Well things changed again. I purchased a Sam's Club
rotisserie chicken for my mom at 7am.  Well that was pure torture, it was hot, smelled amazing and was staring me in the face.  So I opted to eat a chicken leg and a little of the thigh for 3oz of chicken.  I weighed the chicken without the skin and bone.  Then I moved my oatmeal breakfast to lunch and decided not to eat the protein bar.  See I was only eating the protein bar because I needed more protein in my diet for the day.  Well I got my protein eating the chicken for breakfast.  I wasn't really hungry for a snack, but this one chocolate chip cookie I haven't eaten yet said "Eat me before I go bad." I gave in and skipped the apple grazing.  That chicken and oatmeal did a good job at satisfying my hunger.  I didn't have an afternoon snack either.  We went eat at 5:30, better to eat that fattening meal early.  I ate exactly what I budgeted and took the leftovers home.  Another day of great meals for a total of 1361 calories for the day.  Not bad for a meal eating out, only 31 calories over my budget.  I know, I know,  I could have been under 17 calories if I would have eaten the apple instead.  If you like my meal ideas just check out my diary for a list of ingredients for that meal.  And yes! I measured and weighed everything.  A crucial part of everyone's dieting is will power. The second part is portion control with good choices and third is physical activity.

Grilled Tuna Steaks, Fried Cabbage with Savois Sausage and Southern Eggs

Monday August 15, 2016 Menu

How I start my day designing my day's meal plan is quite simple.  On Sunday I had planned my suppers for the week.  Then I thought of what I would like to eat for today and decided which supper meal I would choose.  I knew I wanted eggs with Savois Sausage for breakfast.  I entered my breakfast into the My Fitness Pal.  Then I added in the meals I had chosen to make this week and picked the one that had the less calories.  Because of the high fat in the sausage that I was going to use for breakfast and to make fried cabbage,  I choose the tuna for my supper.  The tuna only had 150 calories and 1g of fat for 4oz of meat.   It may seem like an expensive cut of meat but it only cost $1.75 per steak.   I made my breakfast, planned my meal for supper and headed to work.  When I got to work I grazed on half a Cutie orange till lunch.  Graze? Yes I ate one slice of my orange every 30 minutes.  I started the grazing when I started to feel hungry.  For lunch I picked some sort of leftover item I had at the office.  The winner was half a box of fried rice.  For the afternoon I like to eat a snack.  So I went to the My Fitness Pal and figured out how I was doing with my calories.  At this point I was doing great.  I choose peanuts and grazed till I left work.  See if I was not doing good with my calories I would have chosen 1/2 cup of grapes instead.  When I got home I did my 1 hour of exercise, which included 20 minutes of cardio and the rest of the time weight training.  I went home to cook my tuna supper.  I cooked it on a gas grill on high for 3 minutes per side, my mom made the fried cabbage and my daughter found a box of tuna helper minus the tuna to complete the nights menu.   Later in the evening I checked to make sure I had entered all of my food in my diary and that the portions were correct.  I still had an extra 300 calories left for the day.  My mom had made cook chocolate pudding and I treated myself to 1/2 cup.  As  you see I ate pretty good for the day and I only ate 1113 calories for the day.  If you like my meal ideas just check out my diary for a list of ingredients for that meal.  And yes! I measured and weighed everything.
